Working With Virtual Machine Backups

Parallels Management Console allows you to back up the virtual machines residing on the registered Parallels servers. A regular backing up of virtual machines is essential for any physical server reliability.

Note : If you back up a virtual machine that has snapshots, the snapshots will not be included into the backup, and as a consequence, a virtual machine restored from this backup will have no snapshots either.

To work with virtual machine backups, select a virtual machine in the sidebar and go to the Backup tab. If the virtual machine has any backups, the information about these backups is presented in the form of the following table:

Column Name

Description

ID

The ID assigned to the backup archive.

Date

The date when the backup archive was created.

Size

The size of the backup archive, in megabytes.

Type

The backup type:

  • A full backup indicated by f .
  • An incremental backup indicated by i and containing only the files changed since the previous full or incremental backup.

Description

Description of the backup archive.

The Backup tab also contains the necessary controls allowing you to create a new backup, to restore a backup, or remove it from the Parallels server. More detailed information on how to do these operations is given in the following subsections.
