Adding Network Adapter

You can add up to ten network adapters to a virtual machine.

To add a network adapter to the virtual machine:

  1. Start Parallels Management Console.
  2. Open the Virtual Machine Configuration dialog (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) and launch Add Hardware Wizard by clicking the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Add (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) button Shared Folders Settings - Add Button in the bottom part of the dialog.
  3. In the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Select Device (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) window, select (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Network Adapter (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) and click (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Next (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines).

To add a network adapter with typical configuration, choose the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Network Adapter (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) icon and click the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Add Typical Device (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) button. The wizard will add a typical ready to use network adapter.

  4. In the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Add Network Adapter (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) window, select the type of networking you want to use and click (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Next (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines).

    Specifying the Type of Networking

If you want the device to be connected to the virtual machine automatically at startup, select the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Connected (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) option. If you clear this option, the drive will be enabled in the configuration, but not connected to the virtual machine. You can connect it later when running the virtual machine.

  5. If you selected the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Virtual Network (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) option, in the next step you will need to select the virtual network to which the virtual machine network adapter will be connected.

If you selected the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Direct Assignment (using Intel VT-d) (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) option, in the next step select the PCIe network adapter you want to use. Before using the PCIe adapter in your virtual machine, you will need to assign it to your virtual machines in the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Intel VT-d (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) pane of the (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Server Settings (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines) dialog and install the manufacturer's driver for this PCIe device inside the virtual machine. The driver should support the Intel VT-d technology.

Click (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines)Add Device (Editing Virtual Machine Configuration, Configuring Virtual Machines).
