Set Windows 8 to Work Like Windows 7

As you might know, Windows 8 differs considerable from its previous versions: Windows 8 boots to a tiled "Start screen" rather than the traditional Windows desktop, modern Windows 8 apps are all full screen only, and the Windows 8 desktop has no Start menu.

If you prefer the classic Windows environment where Windows boots to the desktop, Windows applications run in resizable windows, and a fully functional Start menu is available from the desktop, you can easily apply this Windows classic style to Windows 8. To do so:

  1. In Parallels Desktop, start Windows .
  2. If Windows is running in Coherence, click the Parallels icon in the menu bar and click View > Exit Coherence .
  3. Choose View > Use Windows 7 Look .

To revert to Windows 8 experience, repeat the steps above and deselect Use Windows 7 Look .
